Your answers stay in your browser unless you join Picks by email or turn on swipe sync. Movie posters load from TMDB.

Taking the quiz

Your FilmPrint is calculated in your browser. Your answers, any favorites you pick and your swipes are saved in your browser’s local storage so you can come back to your result and your list. They stay on your device unless you choose one of the two options below (Picks by email or swipe sync).

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics for anonymous page-load stats. It uses no cookies and never receives your quiz answers.

Picks by email

If you sign up for Picks by email, we store exactly this:

• your email address, and
• your quiz answers (the 12 questions plus any deeper-round answers), any all-time favorites you picked, and the FilmPrint calculated from them.

We use them to email you film picks and news about Your Next Movie. We don’t store your IP address or use ad trackers or third-party analytics cookies.

Swipe sync (optional)

Your swipes stay in your browser unless you turn on swipe sync by ticking “Swipe sync: also save my swipe history on Your Next Movie’s server”. If you do, we store a random ID created in your browser and the films you swiped (want to watch, not for me or seen it). It isn’t linked to your email. Untick the box, or clear your swipe history on your list page, and we delete it from our server.

Poster images

Film posters are loaded by your browser directly from TMDB’s image servers (image.tmdb.org), and the TMDB logo on our About page comes from themoviedb.org. Like any website, TMDB receives the usual request details, such as your IP address and which poster images were loaded. We don’t send TMDB your answers, your email or a referrer, and we don’t set any TMDB cookies.

What we never do

• We never sell or rent your data.
• We never share your email with anyone except the service that sends our emails.
• If we ever offer aggregated taste insights to film studios, they’ll be anonymous and opt-in only, and we’ll ask you first.

Deleting your data

Email [email protected] or reply to any of our emails and we’ll delete your email, answers and favorites. Every email also has an unsubscribe link.

Where it lives

Picks-by-email signups and saved swipes are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database.
